Lady Bug Cat Beanie Crochet Pattern

Here is another lovely cat beanie inspired by insects. I made this for my sister who loves lady bugs and cats! This pattern is not beginner’s easy unless you understand the terms of fountain double crochet and knit stitch.

Lady Bug Cat Beanie Crochet Pattern

Materials Needed

  • 5mm hook
  • Red heart black and red yarn
  • Crochet needle
  • Scissors
  • Pom-Pom maker or faux fur
  • White, black and pink felt
  • White, black and pink string
  • Regular needle

Abbreviation

  • FDC: Fountain Double Crochet
  • FPDC: Front Post Double Crochet
  • BPDC: Back Post Double Crochet
  • CH: Chain
  • SC: Single Crochet
  • SC Knit Stitch also called the waistcoat stitch or center stitch.
  • SL ST: Slip Stitch
  • F/O: Fasten Off

Notes

Ch 1 does not count as first stitch. SC Knit Stitch also called the waistcoat stitch or center stitch is being used in this pattern. I started to do the random black red “hearts” randomly. It’s up to you how many times you want to repeat the hearts. I’ll put a little warning sign when you can start.

Gauge: 4 stitches and 4 rows= 2 inches

Finished Size: 22″ width 8″ height

Round 1: FDC 60
Round 2-3: ch 1, [fpdc, bpdc] around, sl st into first fpdc made (60)
Round 4: ch 1, sc around, sl st into first sc (60)


Round 5-12: ch 1, [knit stitch sc] around (sc in center of sc you’ll be working this stitch throughout the hat), sl st to first knit stitch sc made.
Change to red

Note I started to do the random black red “hearts” randomly. It’s up to you how many times you want to repeat the hearts throughout.
Round 13-25: ch 1, [knit stitch sc] around, sl st into first knit stitch made (60)
Round 26: ch 1, [knit stitch in the next 5 knit stitches, dec] around knit stitch in the last 4 knit stitches, sl st into first knit stitch made (52)
Round 27: ch 1, [knit stitch in the next 4 knit stitches, dec] around knit stitch in the last 4 knit stitches, sl st into the first stitch made (44)


Round 28: ch 1, [knit stitch in the next 3 knit stitches, dec] around knit stitch in the last 4 knit stitches, sl st into the first stitch made (36)
Round 29: ch 1, [knit stitch in the next 2 knit stitches, dec] around, sl st into the first stitch made (27)
Round 30: ch 1, [knit stitch in the next knit stitch, dec] around, sl st into the first stitch made (18)
Round 31: ch 1, [dec] around, sl st into the first stitch made (9)

Ears (makes 2)

Round 1: MC 4 sc, sl st to first sc (4)
Round 2: ch 1, [inc] around (make sure to knit stitch), sl st to first sc (8)
Round 3: ch 1, [knit stitch in the next knit stitch, inc] around, sl st to first sc (12)
Round 4-7: ch 1, [knit stitch] around, sl st to first sc (12)

Assembly

  • Assemble your pom-pom or faux fur in the middle of the hat.
  • Next, add the ears next to your pom-pom or faux fur.
  • Place your cat mouth first in the middle. This is right above round 4.
  • Apply your blush 1 stitch apart from the cats mouth.
  • Make sure to sew the felt black onto the white eyes before sewing onto the hat.
  • Once you have sewn the black onto the white felt sew the white felt eyes in the center of the blush a little up. This is right below round 13.
